Winning puppies of the year

Updated: Mar 4, 2019

Happy new year to all Pembroke enthusiasts around the world! Time for a look at the best puppy winners at 2018 championship shows with CCs on offer. Heading the list is Lorraine Weedall and Nicola Bogue’s dog Bronabay Illuminations (Ch Bronabay Cannonball ex Bronabay True Colours) with seven such awards. On five are Teresa Maddox’s bitch Salvenik Summer Rosebud (Redfordhill Magic Moments to Salvenik ex Ch Bertley Summer Rose with Salvenik) and Tracy and Kath Irving’s bitch Twinan Tight Squeeze (Twinan Dip Yer Butty ex Debsanna’s Promises Twinan). The latter also won two CCs from puppy and is the Our Dogs top puppy. These two both scored in the puppy groups, Rosebud taking two PG3 and a PG4, Squeeze three PG3, but the only puppy group win at this level was scored by Sauron at Manchester. Two BP awards went to Sue Harrison’s tri bitch Haresfoot Cora (Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight ex Haresfoot Zena) and Teresa Maddox’s bitch Salvenik Scarlet Rose (Magic Moments ex Bertley Autumnal Rose with Salvenik). Single BP winners were Kevin Dover and Lars Saether’s dog Pemcader Sauron (Merthyr Wanda-Win The Toss for Ryslip ex Pemcader Bewicthed), Tracy and Kath’s dog Twinan Life’s A Blast (Dip Yer Butty ex Ch Creslow Classified at Twinan), Margaret and Ian Hoggarth’s tri bitch Whitebarn Moonbeam (Ch Pemcader Thunderball ex Whitebarn Tabitha Twitchit), Jo Gordon and Cheryl Heath’s US imported tri dog Crescenthill-Brynlea Moon Glow (Am GCh Martindale Black Bart ex Am GCh Woodsedge-Brynlea Let Them Eat Cake), Ena Ellwood’s Salvenik Silk Rose at Ellhar (also a puppy CC winner, and sister to Scarlet Rose), Lynne Creech’s dog Zydahayes Sir Bruce (Ch Corrogs Young Whistler ex Zydahayes Jitterbug) and Barry and Sue Coulson, Elisabeth Camboni and Katell Malagré’s French-bred dog Oye-Dragoon-Willow des Contamines at Woodhenge (Int/Fr/Port Ch Lawrence Of Arabia des Contamines ex Int/Fr Ch Legend Of Dragoon Rose des Contamines). Tracy and Kath Irving’s latest puppy Twinan Shake The Tree rounded off the kennel’s show year with BOB and BP at Luton under Gavin Robertson, handled by Steve Atkinson, going on to G4 and PG1 from Nick Gourley. Don’t forget that if you have sold a promising puppy to someone who might be thinking of joining the show fraternity, the new ‘all-breed’ shows are running ‘have a go events’ designed to show newcomers what it’s all about. The first will be held at Manchester.
