Some extra notes this week – thanks to Kevin Egan for a report from the inaugural ‘Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Friends Charity Dog Show’.
“At the invitation of the Mayor Elect of Pembroke, Cllr Linda Brown, the Welsh Corgi League was asked to assist with the organisation of a companion charity dog show in aid of Guide Dogs Cymru at The Common, Pembroke last Saturday starting at 10am.
“The objective was for Corgis to commence proceedings and then all other breeds to follow. The show was well supported despite low cloud and some drizzle, but this did not dampen the spirits of those that came to support such a worthy cause!
“Our judge for Pembrokes was Hedd Richards (Sheridel) and for all other breeds Del Richards (Sheridel). Stewards were Cerys Davies and Amanda Rees. Our two vets on call, who were in attendance for the entire show seated ringside, were from Medivet Pembroke. “Winners of the Pembroke classes (total 17 entries) were: best puppy (2): Karen Newton’s Bella. Best trick (1): Leanne Marie Josie’s Tiko (fluffy). Waggiest tail (4): Kay Evans’ Callie. Dog most like owner (5): Mary Davies’ Bella.
“Best biscuit catcher (5): Karen Egan’s Mungo. Judge’s favourite dog or bitch (7): 1 Leanne Marie Josie’s Tiko. Best rescue (1): Maria Evans’ Meg. Best veteran (2): Sophie Thomas’ Barty (ten years).”
Thanks Kevin for that and to all who helped organise the event. Have always felt the breed’s native county could do a bit more to celebrate what is surely its most famous ‘export’ so perhaps this will change in future.
