WELSH CORGIS, PEMBROKE
NEWS FROM A UK PERSPECTIVE
Cerys Davies (Ceranda) judged at the Working and Pastoral Breeds Association of Scotland and it was a second CC plus BOB from Chris and Nicki Blance’s Penliath Spanner In The Worx (Am Ch Ninacorte Chicago Hope ex Coventry Dancing With The Stars for Penliath) who was shortlisted in the group by Steve Hall. He is the third member of this AI litter to win a CC this year.
The BCC made up a new champion in Linda and Willie Preston’s Craigycor Campsie Princess who won her first at LKA 2015 under Fran Fricker and her second at Scottish KC in August this year from Ena Ellwood.
She was bred by Alan and Sarah Matthews and is litter sister to their Ch/Ir Ch Craigycor Lightning Bolt. Both parents are multiple CC winners, group show BIS winner and Crufts BOB Ch/Ir Ch Whitepoint Dream Weaver at Craigycor and group winner Ch/Ir/Int Ch Craigycor Viva La Diva, both also top winners in Ireland.
This is a half-brother to half-sister mating on Ch/Ir/Am Ch Shavals Fire Classic at Craigycor (Ch/Am Ch Ninacorte Star Caster at Woodhenge ex Ch Shavals Fire Odyssey, by Ch/Can Ch Stonecroft’s Second Stage).
The granddams are Ir Ch Whitepoint Sea Shell and US import Am/Ir Ch Elfwish Sally Ride, a daughter of Australian import Am Ch Aberlee Storm Force, so the pedigree is a mixture of UK, Irish, American, Canadian and Australian. The female line is all American right back to prewar import Thorwill Bronwen.
I was wondering if this makes Linda and Willie the first Scottish exhibitors to make up four Pem champions? They have crowned homebred Ch Willinda Campsie Dutchess and Ch Willinda Anai Anai, as well as Ch Tymawr Black Abbess who came to them with two CCs after breeder Noelle Kevill died.
Among other Scottish Pem kennels, Elsie Montgomerie (Maldwyn) made up three champions and bred another. Mollie Banks (Peggysmill) made up three (two homebred), Peggy Grogan (Fanara) bred two and made up another, and John and Caroline Stewart (Blazerae) have bred three. Have I missed out any other Scottish kennels with three or more UK champions owned and/or bred?
RDCC was her nephew, Alan and Sarah’s tri Ir Ch Craigycor Viva Las Vegas (Lightning Bolt ex Craigycor Betty Boop), his first UK green card, and RBCC Alan and Wendy Rees’ Ch Stadwen Tinkerbell (Ch Stadwen Sparticus ex Stadwen Prima Donna). So all four countries of the UK were represented in the top spots, three of them were from half-sibling matings and the other from a g-g-g-grandsire to g-g-g-granddaughter mating!
BP was Tracy and Kath Irving’s dual CC winner Twinan Tight Squeeze (Twinan Dip Yer Butty ex Debsanna’s Promises Twinan) and Anne Macdonald gave her puppy group 3.
At the other end of the country the Devon and Cornwall open show was in remembrance of the life of Diane May who served the club for so many years, latterly as secretary. Amanda Jefferson (Karisoke) gave BIS to Carole Turner’s amazing 12-year-old Cottonfields Hecate (Ch Pemcader Belroyd Zeus ex Powdermill Magic Gold for Cottonfields).
BD was David Jones’ tri Ceranda Surf’s Up (Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight ex Craigycor Lovely Maud with Ceranda) while BPIS was Becky and Diane May’s Barawood Pandoro at Giradellis (Int/It Ch Beaudy ex Barawood Soul Singer) with reserve to his sister, Becky May and Dawn Woodey’s Barawood Spirito Libero.
A few open show group successes I have picked up from FB (please let me know by messenger or email if you have a group win or placing): Lynne Creech’s Zydahayes Sir Bruce was BOB, BP, G1 and RBPIS at Torquay under Frank Kane while Teresa Maddox’s Redfordhill Magic Moments to Salvenik was G2 at Liverpool with daughter Salvenik Scarlet Rose was PG1, judge’s breed specialists Hilary Wyer and Ros Gardiner.
In Australia Gayle Garvin (Garvins) from the US judged the Victoria specialty and BOB and RBIS was Carole Vaughan’s Ch Vanharon Miss Fisher (Ch Newport Marlon Brando ex Ch Vanharon Wishes For My Girl) ex with RBOB and BP to Joanne McCann and John Burgess’ puppy Anbenly Jadore (Sup Ch Anwyl Fast Track To Paris ex Anbenly Love Song) and BOS to Joan and Bob Hutton’s Sup Ch Bojojamile Bit Of A Cracker (Ch/Aus Ch Dwynella Made By Design ex Ch Bojojamile Beam Of Sunshine).
At the Eastern Counties open show on Nov 18 Robin Searle will judge Pems in place of John O’Mahoney.
The League Southern Section Christmas party is at 2pm on Sunday Dec 2 at Worplesdon Memorial Hall; details from Bonnie Wiles.
