Litters of multiple champions

More-than-blustery Bournemouth was judged by Graham Hill (Dimland Borzois and a Cardi owner too), and I’m sure everyone was thankful that the society has gone over to the in-and-out tenting format, even though it was deemed sensible not to use the benching tents.

Do we really need benching? I know that over the years Corgi people have tended to make use of them much more than do many other breeds, but it would be interesting to hear your views.

The day ended with two new champions, both a second champion for their kennel this year.

DCC and BOB went to Alan and Wendy Rees’ homebred Stadwen Figaro, who becomes the second champion from the litter as his sister is Ch Stadwen Tinkerbell who won the RCC today.

His first CC came from Harri Lehkonen at Southern Counties last year and his second four days previously at Devon and Cornwall from Robin Newhouse.

BCC was Chris and Nicki Blance, Bill Shelton and Steve Leyerly’s Penliath Sent From Coventry whose first CC came at W/P Breeds of Wales this year under Sue Hewart-Chambers and second at SKC May under Albert Wight.

In this case she is the third champion from this litter bred by Chris and Nicki, following Ch Penliath Sent To Coventry and the male Ch Penliath Spanner In The Worx.

This is only the fourth time there have been three UK champions in a litter. Two of these were in the ‘50s, Pat Curties’ litter by Lees Laureate ex Cantata of Cowfold (Chs Lees Symphony, Melody and Duet) and Jane Firbank’s by Stormerbanks Supersonic ex Crawleycrow Pintail (Chs Crawleycrow Pint, Pineapple and Pincushion).

Then we had to wait 60 years for the next such litter bred by Amanda Rees by Ch Stadwen Silly Billy ex Ch Stadwen Floria (Chs Stadwen Ivanhoe, Florence and Flora, plus a dual CC winner), and now this one a couple of years later.

RDCC went to Yana Vengre Vengerova’s Rus/Swiss/Lux Ch Aethwy Piano Man (one CC, Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight ex Int/Rus Ch Aethwy Free As A Bird).

Hilary and Ray Wyer’s tri Cottivy Cappuccino (Cottivy Skyfall ex Brisam Mokka at Cottivy) was BP. There doesn’t seem to have been a BV award, at least not on the official site, but Snow Knight was second in the veteran stakes under Jeff Luscott.

I won’t go into too much detail about the pedigrees of the new champions as I did so when their siblings were made up.

Briefly, Figaro is from a half-brother to half-sister mating, being by Ch Stadwen Spartakus (Ch Pemcader Belroyd Zeus ex Stadwen Tosca) ex Stadwen Prima Donna (Ch Evancoyd Conciliate ex Tosca). Prima Donna is herself from a grandsire to granddaughter mating, as Tosca is by Ch Stadwen Silly Billy (by Conciliate) ex his aunt Ch Stadwen Flower Of May (by Ch Belroyd The Red Grouse who is also great-grandsire of Zeus).

Sent From is from a litter conceived by artificial insemination by Am Ch Ninacorte Chicago Hope (born 1995, by Am Ch Renefield Sportscaster ex UK-bred Ch Woodhenge Sun Maiden) ex US-bred Coventry Dance With The Stars for Penliath (from another AI mating by Ch Penliath Flash Dancer ex Am GCh Coventry Allure at Wyndstar).

Flash Dancer is a son of Chicago Hope’s brother Ch/Am Ch Ninacorte Star Caster of Woodhenge, while Allure’s dam is a granddaughter of Chicago Hope.

An open show group win for Kim Warner’s Meitza Erik The King, at Vale of Glamorgan where Caroline Friend-Rees judged the breed and Jeff Thomas the group.

Larry Adams (Gaylord) judged the Cascade specialty in the Pacific North West of the US and his BOB was Kara and Alyssa Janiszak’s bitch GCh Sterling Shine The Light (GCh Lionhart’s All About Harry ex GCh Sundance Grace Kelly) while BOS was Gay Gausman’s Ch Wanderpond Mylin Stevens Pass (Aus Ch Trehilyn Don’t Hold Back ex GCh Wanderpond Prima Ballerina).
