Blackpool, like Border Union, gave us a specialist judge for its non-CC classes, in this case Dave Asbridge (Chililabomwe).
BOB was Judy Down’s bitch Elessar Designer Cover (one CC, by Jonloran King Of Clubs ex Elessar Rival Design) and it proved an exciting day for Judy who also took BOB Cardi.
Tracy and Kath Irving took BD with Born To Be Your Salt Dog at Twinan (Hung/Rom/Greek/Mac Ch Born To Be Your Spartacus di Pi Et Ra ex Int/Rom Ch Twinan Colour Me Red) while another import was reserve, Teresa Maddox’s Redfordhill Magic Moments to Salvenik (Dan Ch Mistycor One Upon A Dream ex Dan Ch Vuedor Could It Be Magic).
RBB was Julia Alexander and Mary Davies’ Ermyn Dreams Allowed (Ir Ch Chawton Dream Maker ex Ch Vuedor Black Pearl of Ermyn) who also took the best junior award which I think is unique to this show.
Teresa won BP with Salvenik Summer Rosebud (by the RBD ex Ch Bertley Summer Rose with Salvenik) who took another puppy group place, this time PG4, under Britt-Marie Young.
Sandra Muckle (Gowerston) judged the Corgi specialty in Germany, which I believe was held at a monastery! BIS went to Natali Shilenco’s Russian-bred tri Pembroke bobtail, Int/Rus/Ukr/Geo/Arm Ch Ormai Arakhis, handled by Cindy Gebruers who also won BOB in Cardis. Arakhis is by Int Ch Andvol Mercury ex Ch Siggens Quality Black Pearl who is also dam of Andvol Marrakesh, dual CC winner in the UK.
BOS, from the Netherlands, was Tanne Eerland’s Italian-bred Pem’s Life Joint Strike Fighter (Ch Pemcader High Flyer ex Only Me of Pennies from Heaven).
For some reason Crufts judges are not announced as far in advance as they used to be; I think the only one currently listed is Anne Macdonald next year. However I see from the PWCCA newsletter that the 2020 Pem judge will be Andy Carter (Saddle Lane) from New York City.
This will be his fourth UK CC appointment, the others all coming at breed club shows. He has been involved with the breed for more than 40 years and I suspect his dogs best known to UK readers will be the British import Ch Courtllyn Chagal and more recently Ch Happiharbor Saddle Lane Ty. I think he’s the second US judge to do the breed at Crufts, following Tim Mathiesen a few years ago.
This year Andy is judging dogs and BOB at the PWCCA national specialty which takes place from September 22 to 29 at the Roberts Centre in Ohio. Bitches will be judged by Vince Savioli (Aubrey) and sweepstakes by Shannon Stone (Foxlair) who handled the BOB last year. As always there will also be herding, tracking, agility, obedience and rally competitions at this great celebration of all things Pembroke.
A couple of messages from the Rees family. First, four classes at the EuroCorgi show are still available for rosette sponsorship at £15 a class, or £5 per large rosette. They are Cardigan breeder class, Pembroke junior dog, brace and progeny. Please contact Amanda if you wish to sponsor. Secondly, you may not have realised that the South Wales CC is holding an open show on Saturday Aug 4, as it is omitted from the 'green card'. It's at the usual venue, Penyrheol Community Centre, Heol Aneurin, Caerphilly CF83 2PA, Pem judge Anne Petitpierre, Cardi judge Lars Saether. Details from Wendy Rees.
Sorry, that’s all for this week – please let me know of any news of Pems from around the world. And don’t forget your EuroCorgi entries!
