Group success at Windsor, and a half-yearly retrospective

Windsor proved to be another exciting day for the breed. Carole Smedley (Antoc Cardigans, Rough Collies etc) was judging and made good use of the in-and-out rings; fortunately a slight breeze made the strong sunshine more bearable.

Dog CC was a fifth for Sarah Taylor and Diana King’s Ch Oregonian Snow Tiger (Ch Nireno Luke Skywalker ex Oregonian Snow Queen). Sarah also took BB in Cardis while Diana was celebrating her birthday.

Tiger went on to BOB and then took the group under Robin Newhouse. Must be quite a while since the breed has had two different group winners in the same year. This was a first group win for Diana but Sarah has previously won BIS and RBIS with Ch Bymil Black Nymph and won the first ever Cardi group with Ch Bymil Picture This. Nice this time not to have too far to return the following day.

BCC was a fourth for Alan and Wendy Rees’ Ch Stadwen Tinkerbell (Ch Stadwen Spartakus ex Stadwen Prima Donna), handled as usual by Amanda.

Chris and Nicki Blance, Bill Shelton and Steve Leyerly’s Penliath Spanner In The Worx (one CC, by Am Ch Ninacorte Chicago Hope ex Coventry Dancing With The Stars for Penliath) was reserve in dogs. Teresa Maddox’s Salvenik Summer Rosebud (Redfordhill Magic Moments to Salvenik ex Ch Bertley Summer Rose with Salvenik) won another BP award and topped this off with the RBCC.

BV was the BOB’s grandsire, Mary Davies’ tri Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight (Ch/Am Ch Rosewood Set Sail to Salvenik ex Wharrytons Pansy Potter at Ermyn), who went on to VG3 under Andreas Schemel, while Kim Warner’s tri Meitza Erik The King (Ch Pemcader Thunderball ex Meitza Goldust) was second in the beginners group under Robin.

Ollie Lawrence took VHC in his junior handling class under Georgina Ferguson while the Cottivys were reserve in the breeders competition under Liz Cartledge (with the Liebhund Cardis first).

The West of England CA’s summer party is on Sunday August 5 at 2pm at The Community Centre, Abson Road, Pucklechurch BS16 9RH. It will start with the usual games, followed by a cream tea. Contributions to the raffle will be welcomed, and please bring something to sit on!

There was a big entry of both breeds (130 Pems, 145 Cardis, let’s hope EuroCorgi can match that) at the Finnish specialty where Leah James (McLea’s Cardigans from the US) gave BOB Pem to Natalia Maksimenko’s Russian-bred Style Life Double Dare (Int Ch Caamora Shamquin I Have A Dream for Annline ex Ch Dragonjoy Under The Cherry Moon) and BOS to Piritta Keränen’s tri Ch Glamdring’s Dashing Daisy (Am GCh Triad Panoramic ex Int Ch Glamdring’s Bonnie Belenos).

Hazel Fitzgibbon tells me she was judging at Vale of Clwyd open show where she gave best NSC and later the group to Lorraine Weedall and Nicola Bogue’s Ch Bronabay Cannonball.

A few judges from the latest Journal. At Belfast this year Debbie Stansbury will be awarding CCs in Pems for the first time. She has the Woodbriar Dobermanns and Groenendaels. Kevin Dover (Pemcader) will be judging at Windsor next year. Peter Clifton (Joseter Cardigans) will do East of England ’19, amazingly the first Pem CC appointment for ‘Mr Cardi’.

A quick round-up of the CC show results from the first half of the year, including Windsor.

In dogs Ch Pemcader Thunderball has taken eight CCs all with BOB and the remainder have been split between Andvol Marrakesh (BOB), Ch Bronabay Cannonball, Stadwen Figaro (BOB), Meitza Erik The King and Ch Oregonian Snow Tiger (BOB).

In bitches Ch Stadwen Tinkerbell is leading with four CCs, Ch Wopodhenge Star Xtravaganza has two as does Penliath Sent To Coventry. Single CC winners are Ch Stadwen Florence, Ch Penliath All About Eve, Craigycor Dynamo, Coventry Sky Full Of Stars (BOB) and Corland Solitaire (BOB).

Dog reserves: three to Penliath Spanner In The Worx, two to Snow Tiger, Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight and Cannonball. One each to Figaro, Am Ch Afara Calico Pony, Twinan Dip Yer Butty and Oregonian Snow Leopard.

Bitch reserves: two to Star Xtravaganza, Whitebarn Sea Shell and Ermyn Fly By Night. One each to Ch Cherastayne Snowbride, Sent To Coventry, Florence, Ch Bertley Summer Rose with Salvenik, Balt Ch Je Suis Kylie Minogue des Contamines, Amberynlea Dark Desire with Ellhar and Salvenik Summer Rosebud.

Bronabay Illuminations has five best puppy awards, Summer Rosebud four and one each to Pemcader Sauron, Vuedor Gentle Breeze, Twinan Life’s A Blast and Whitebarn Moonbeam.

Snow Knight was four times best veteran, Haresfoot Tea Rose twice and one each to Ch Vuedor Black Pearl of Ermyn, Snowbride, Tudoroyal Christmas Fun, Cristalunas Apache Spirit of Keltybrae, Cottonfields Black Eye’d Pea and Ermyn Flickering Flame at Solaw.

In the big rings Thunderball has a G1 and G2, Snow Tiger a G1 and Marrakesh a G4.

Summer Rosebud has two PG3 and a 4, Snow Knight two VG3 and Erik The King a beginners G1 and 2.

A final reminder that online entries for Eurocorgi close at Midnight on Monday 9.
