Finnish judge at Newbury

Updated: Jun 8, 2018

Southern Counties specialises in Scandinavian judges and over the past few years several have given CCs in Pembrokes for the first time.

This year it was Harri Lehkonen (Wolfheart Fox Terriers) who is chairman of the board of the Finnish Kennel Club.

Entries on the day proved to be more than the published figures as quite a number over all breeds had gone astray in the post en route to the printers.

DCC and BOB was a first for Alan and Wendy Rees’ Stadwen Figaro, handled by Amanda. He is by Ch Stadwen Spartakus ex Stadwen Prima Donna, thus litter brother to recently crowned Ch Tinkerbell. He was shortlisted in the group by John Carter.

BCC was a second for the Crufts winner, Nicki and Chris Blance, Bill Shelton and Beckie Williams’ tri Penliath Sent To Coventry (Am Ch Ninacorte Chicago Hope ex Coventry Dancing With The Stars to Penliath), This is the second show running where a bitch co-owned by Beckie has won the CC, quite an achievement from California!

Lorraine Weedall and Nicola Bogue’s Ch Bronabay Cannonball (Ch Pemcader Belroyd Zeus ex Ch Bronabay Cherish The Moment) was reserve in dogs, and in bitches it was Ena Ellwood’s tri Amberynlea Dark Desire with Ellhar (by US-bred Int/Pol Ch Mapleleaf Wisus The Knight In Black ex Int/Lat/Lit/Est/Cz Ch Tuja Medaus Lietus). This is the first green card for her breeder Natalya Jermakova, and indeed for a Pem bred in Latvia.

BP was Teresa Maddox’s Salvenik Summer Rosebud (Redfordhill Magic Moments to Salvenik ex Ch Bertley Summer Rose with Salvenik), and she was PG3 under Ron Menaker. Gill Legerton took BV with Ermyn Flickering Flame at Solaw (Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight ex Janjinks Wild Honey at Ermyn).

Meitza Erik The King was VHC in the junior stakes under Tim Ball.

A good day for the Hoggarth clan at Ripon open show where Whitebarn Moonbeam was BP and PG4 while Whitebarn Sea Nymph, handled by granddaughter Katie, was BOB and G3.

In the US at the Gaitway specialty BOB under Kandy Boll (Corgard) was a repeat of Golden Gate, going to Macy Rogers, Mary Greenwood and Dede Rodgers’ GChB Greenwoods Livin’ It Up (GCh Linicorgi's Livin' On A Prayer ex Gr Ch Greenwood's Moonlight Melody). BOS was Mark and Holly Russo’s GCh Townhill A Kiss To Build A Dream On (GCh Ciregna That’s Amore ex GChB Townhill Penny Lane).

Down Under, the Tasmanian specialty saw a BIS win for Joan Watson’s Ch Anbenly Silver Fern. More details welcomed.

Also from Australia, friends of Barbara and Jim Ludowici will want to know their new address. After 40 years at Galston they are now living at Villa 96 “Living Choice”, 15 Old Glenhaven Road, Glenhaven 2156 NSW, phone 02 9634 7160, email

Michelle Young has taken over the Fergwyn breeding and showing so the line will continue.

in Canada at the PWCA(C) national specialty Juliana and Barb Du Pree’s GCh Curig FaerieTale Just Kissed (Am GCh Martindale Black Bart ex Ch Curig FaerieTale Dusky Willow) was BOB under Stephanie Hedgepath (Jimanie) and repeated this at the associated Alberta section specialty, judge Marilyn Van Vleit (Aurora).

BOS and BV under Marilyn van Vleit was GChEx/Am GCh Curig FaerieTale Highlander CGN (Am/Can Ch Putnam Dazzling Ffair Dalis ex Ch Curig FaerieTale Baby’s Breath) at just three months shy of 12 years old.

BOS under Stephanie was new GCh Curig FaerieTale Highland Heir (GCh Curig Faerietale Jedi Knight ex Ch Curig FaerieTale Firefly), good going for these affixes!
