Double group success for Pems

East of England proved a good show for the Pembrokes. Our judge was Peter Clifton (Joseter Cardigans), astonishingly the first time the Cardi maestro has given CCs in the cousin breed. I gather he first handled a Pem in the ring 68 years ago!

He awarded the DCC, his fourth, and BOB to End Ellwood’s tri bobtail Ch Ellhar Maksimos (Ch Salvenik Set To Star ex Ellhar Encantada), who won his first CC as a junior at this event five years ago. This time he went on to G2 under Robin Newhouse, beaten only by the eventual BIS winner.

BCC was a seventh for Alan and Wendy Rees’ Ch Stadwen Tinkerbell (Ch Stadwen Spartakus ex Stadwen Prima Donna).

The RDCC was a first green card for Lynne Creech’s Zydahayes Sir Bruce (Ch Corrogs Young Whistler ex Zydahayes Jitterbug), while RBCC went to Karen Newton’s tri Ch Corland Solitaire (Nebriowa Skidaddle ex Pemcader Picture Puzzle).

A new face from Chris and Nicki Blance topped the puppies, Penliath Bill Me Later, and she went on to PG3 judged by Rob Sansom. She comes from another Transatlantic AI mating, between Am/NZ Ch Coventry Esquire and Ch Penliath Femme Fatale.

Babs and Wally Aylott took BV with their tri Barwal Belle (Foxfire Red Ruffian at Pemland ex Pemcader Belroyd Zoe of Barwal).

In the cause of journalistic duty I had almost steeled myself to go and see the new animated film The Queen’s Corgi. Then I read the reviews and decided not to bother. Have any of you seen it? Is it likely to prompt the public to go out in search of a Corgi? Do hope not in view of the fact that there are so few serious breeders nowadays in this country.

Judy Down (Elessar) will be awarding CCs at the August Scottish KC this year. In 2020 Chris Blance (Penliath) will judge the Midland WCC; Bob Bonner (Corgwood) East of England. Fran Kaye (Danfrebek Rough Collies) will do Birmingham National 2021, Tegwyn Jones (Herwr Dobermanns) Bath.

Marion Hodgson (Ddalrus Border Collies and Tervueren) is now on the West of England CA A2 list.

Welsh Corgi Rescue is in need of experienced couples or families willing to offer a home to what it describes as ‘challenging’ young Corgis. For more details contact Sheila Baker or Lynne Creech on 01892 723401 or

BIS at the Queensland specialty in Australia under Sue Hadley (Bethwyn Cardis) was Eddie and Marie Tyler’s Ch Welcornel Victoria’s Secret (Sup Ch Anwyl Fast Track To Paris ex Jopearl Lets Make Music).
