Champion title for family's first Pembroke

A lovely day for Windsor where we ended up with the first new champion bitch of the year when Kevin Dover (Pemcader) gave a third CC plus BOB to Whitebarn Sea Shell.

She’s the first Pembroke owned by Hannah Fawcett and her mother Pat who are highly successful with their Laceway Border Collies which include a BIS winner. I wonder how long it is since anyone made up their very first Pem?

So pleased also that Margaret Hoggarth, who with her husband Ian is Sea Shell’s breeder, was there to share the joy. Margaret works so hard for the breed in her capacity as League secretary, and this is the first champion for the affix, an unforgettable day for all concerned I’m sure.

She won her first CC as a puppy at LKA 2016 under Kim Nielsen, and her second at WELKS this year from Jeff Luscott.

She’s the first UK champion by dog CC record holder Ch Pemcader Thunderball (Ch Pemcader Belroyd Zeus ex Pemcader Black Glamour) and her dam is Whitebarn Tabitha Twitchit. The latter is by Ch Salvenik Set To Star ex Whitebarn Mrs Tiggywinkle and is therefore a double granddaughter of Ch/Am Ch Rosewood Set Sail to Salvenik, a son of Am Ch Twinan Another Chance for Salvenik whose brother Ch Twinan Custom Made also appears twice in Tabitha’s pedigree. They were by Ch/NZ Ch Salvenik Super Chance who was also Zeus’ sire and is behind Thunderball’s dam too.

The tail female line goes back through Oakcap and Blands bitches to the three champion bitches in direct line, Blands Optimist, Blands Expectations and Anzil Elegance of Blands, and beyond that to several generations of Anzil bitches bred by Elsie Walton and Annie Hill, fondly known as ‘The Twinnies’ by those us who remember those lovely Yorkshire ladies.

The dog CC was a new face to many of us in Rus/Swiss/Lux Ch Aethwy Piano Man. He was bred in Russia by Andrew Khvatov (who also bred the Crufts CC winner Anya) and is owned by Yana Vengre-Vengerova, also from Moscow.

He had arrived in the UK a few days earlier and is spending some time with Mary Davies, owner of his sire Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight (another by Set Sail, ex Wharrytons Pansy Potter at Ermyn), who won another BV award today and who had a stay in Russia in his younger days.

His dam is Int/Rus Ch Aethwy Free As A Bird who is by UK-bred Int/Rus Ch Vuedor’s Any Dream Will Do ex Italian-bred Int/Rus Ch Dragoncrownprincess to Aethwy.

Two weeks ago he was Kevin’s RBD at the EuroCorgi show in Austria and the day after that he was BOB under Gerald King at the European Winner Show, going on to G3.

The reserves went to bobtail littermate Woodhenge Star Angel for Pendrell, a tri owned by Elaine and Alan Barlow, and Woodhenge Storm Princess (one CC), owned by breeders Barry and Sue Coulson. They are also by Thunderball, ex Woodhenge Moon Maiden.

BP was another bobtail, Sue Harrison’s tri Haresfoot Danny Boy (Towernaglen Red Dragon with Ceranda ex Haresfoot Zena).

Ch Born To Be Your Salt Dog at Twinan was VHC in the champion stakes under Dave Killilea.

Good to see John Burgess (Breconmohr) from Australia ringside - you may recall him judging the breed at Crufts a few years ago.

As we enter July here’s a round-up of the first six months of the year. The CC wins have been well spread out so far.

In dogs Ch Pemcader Thunderball has had three (all with BOB) and Stadwen Lancelot two (both with BOB).

Others went to Ch Oregonian Snow Tiger, (new Ch) Ellhar Maksimos (BOB), Ch Born To Be Your Salt Dog at Twinan, (Ch) Penliath Spanner In The Worx, Oye-Dragoon-Willow des Contamines at Woodhenge, Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight (BOB), Ir Ch Craigycor Viva Las Vegas (BOB) and Rus/Swiss/Lux Ch Aethwy Piano Man.

Three bitches have won two CCs so far: Penliath Sent From Coventry (one with BOB), (Ch) Whitebarn Sea Shell (one with BOB) and Ch Woodhenge Star Xtravaganza.

One each to Craigycor Frozen (BOB), Cottonfields Hecate, Rus Ch Aethwy Anya, Amberynlea Dark Desire with Ellhar (BOB), Ch Penliath Sent To Coventry (BOB), Aus Ch Jopearl First Noelle at Breconmohr for Stadwen and Salvenik Summer Rosebud.

In dogs, Spanner In The Worx has three RCCs, Redfordhill Magic Moments to Salvenik and Meitza Erik The King two and one each to Snow Knight, Viva Las Vegas, Snow Tiger, Lancelot, Oye-Dragoon-Willow and Woodhenge Star Angent for Pendrell.

Woodhenge Storm Princess has won four RBCCs, Twinan Tight Squeeze two, one each to First Noelle, Ch Stadwen Tinkerbell, Summer Rosebud, Coventry Foreign Affair with Penliath, Star Xtravaganza, Dark Desire and Sea Shell.

Among the puppies, Twinan Shake The Tree has four BP awards (at ch shows with CCs), Haresfoot Danny Boy three and Craigycor Top Model at Ceranda two.

One each to Craigycor Frozen, Ermyn Snazzy Jazzy and Elessar Royal Salute.

Not all shows have a best veteran award but from those which do Snow Knight has won six times, Ermyn Flickering Flame at Solaw twice, Hecate and Ch Bronabay Troopin The Colour once.

Group places have been: Lancelot G2, Salt Dog G4. Shake The Tree PG2 and 4. Snow Knight VG2. Salvenik Silk Rose with Ellhar JG4, Shake The Tree JG2.

So sorry to hear of the death in Denmark of Marianne Jensen of the very long standing Hashfan kennel, known to everyone who has judged there. She enjoyed much success in both Pems and Cardis and her breeding can be found behind many successful Cardigans in particular. Our sympathy to her family and friends.
