Belfast never draws a huge number of Pembroke nowadays, a pity for those of us who used to enjoy travelling there in days when travelling was easier.
This time there were five sets of exhibitors, just two from Ireland and three from England. However it’s the quality that counts and there was no shortage of that - among the ten dogs present there were two UK champions, a CC-winning Irish champion, four other CC winners and a multiple RCC winner, so there were certainly no ‘cheap tickets’.
DCC was a fifth for Tracy and Kath Irving’s Ch Born To Be Your Salt Dog at Twinan (Hung/Rom/Greek G/Mac Ch Born To Be Your Spartacus at Pi Et Ra ex Int/Rom Ch Twinan Colour Me Red), with reserve to Alan and Sarah Matthews’ Ir Ch Towernaglen Buster Moon at Craigycor (oner CC, Ir Ch Craigycor Viva Las Vegas ex Ir Ch Towernaglen Red Spinel).
It was also a fifth CC for Nicki and Chris Blance, Bill Shelton and Steve Leyerly’s Ch Penliath Sent From Coventry (Am Ch Ninacorte Chicago Hope ex Coventry Dancing With The Stars for Penliath), who was BOB, and Nicki and Chris also took RCC and BP with Penliath Bill Me Later (one CC, Am/NZ Ch Coventry Esquire ex Ch Penliath Femme Fatale). She went on to take her second puppy group, judge Dianna Spavin; luckily this time it was the last day of the show so no return journey was needed for the final.
The announcements of the Crufts judges are now quite advanced and our judge for 2023 is Barry Coulson. Barry and Sue’s Woodhenge kennel has of course been one of the most consistently successful for the past three decades.
The Journal gives notification of the League show judge for 2021 - awarding CC for the first time in the UK will be Gayle Garvin of the Garvin’s kennel, a long-time breed specialist judge from the US. Darlington ’21 has Karen Hewitt of the Cardhew Cardigans.
The League is still looking for a suitable hotel venue in the Midlands for the ’21 show - those we have contacted so far haven’t worked out for one reason or another so any more bright ideas are welcome!

Sorry to read that Babs and Wally Aylott had lost their lovely tri Pemcader Belroyd Zoe at Barwal at the age of nearly 16. She was a consistent winner and through her sons Barwal Brace Beau and Barwal Buccaneer Boy at Pemland she is granddam of Ch Oregonian Raise An Eyebrow and Ch Cordach Georgy Girl among others.
