A sad loss, Manchester puppy win, League trophy winners

So sad to hear of the death of Sue Llewellyn after a long illness.

Sue was such a lovely positive person, always cheerful and smiling. So unfair she should have had so much bad luck in the last few years. As well as being a great Pembroke enthusiast she was a very talented artist too, her Corgi artefacts much sought after.

The first Pem I recall her with was a very attractive tri, Courtllyn Tiara, of Hildenmanor lines. However she Courtllyns really got going when she obtained Pendcrest Carefree from Miss Leslie’s long-established kennel. She was an all quality daughter of Ch Belroyd Hyperion and won a CC the first time Feffie Somerfield judged the breed at that level.

From her Sue established a consistently successful line. Her first UK champion was the classy tri Ch Courtllyn Cadfael, a double grandson of Carefree. His grandson, with four lines to Carefree, was the very masculine Ch Courtllyn Chopin. His dam, Calamity Jane, was also dam of the superbly made tri bitch Ch Courtllyn Carbon Copy, and her son, another tri, was Ch Courtllyn Celtic Chalice.

Other Courtllyns won CCs and two who made their mark in the US were Am Chs Courtllyn Chagal and Cultured Craft. In particular Chagal, ‘Polo’, a glamorous tri son of Carefree, had a tremendous show career in the States which I know gave Sue a great deal of pleasure.

Sue has been much missed around the ringsides in the last few years. Her husband, John, died not so long ago, and our sympathy and best wishes go to their daughters Liz and Belinda and family.

Manchester provided an exciting start to the 2019 CC show season, with BOB, BP and the bitch CC going to a nine-month-old puppy at her first English show.

Craigycor Frozen is owned and bred by Alan and Sarah Matthews and as you’d guess from her name she comes from an AI litter by the Australian dog Aus Sup Ch Aberlee Take It To The Limit ex Craigycor Betty Boop, a Geoges Clooney/Viva La Diva who is also the dam of Ir Chs Viva Las Vegas and Dynamo, and who herself carries a lot of Aberlee breeding.

The judge was Nicki Blance (Penliath/Penarlton) and there was quite an Australian theme to the day with RBCC going to Amanda Rees’ import Aus Ch Jopearl First Noelle at Breconmohr for Stadwen (one CC, Aus/Am Gr Ch Hum’nbird Rock Your Socks ex Aus Ch Jopearl A Little Night Music).

DCC was an eighth for Sarah Taylor and Diana King’s Ch Oregonian Snow Tiger (Ch Nireno Luke Skywalker, more Aussie connections there, ex Oregonian Snow Queen) with reserve and BV to his grandsire, Mary Davies’ tri Ch/Rus/Ukr Ch Ermyn Snow Knight (Ch/Am Ch Rosewood Set Sail to Salvenik ex Wharrytons Pansy Potter at Ermyn) who celebrated his tenth birthday a few days earlier. He was also second in the veteran stakes under Frank Kane.

A Breed Appreciation Day (BAD) for Pembrokes will be held on Saturday March 2 at Pucklechurch Village Hall, Abson Road, Bristol BS16 9RH starting at 10am. I will be the breed speaker. Details from Cerys Davies on gelli2@btinternet.com.
